A simple email newsletter template – Dinosaurs & drink bottles!

I received an email, yesterday, from a lady named Janelle, who failed to step back quickly enough when her boss asked who’d like to volunteer to write the company e-newsletter.

Janelle wanted to know…

She wanted to know if I had some sort of template for writing e-newsletters, what’s required if she re-publishes a free-reprint article off the web, and do I have any other advice.

Perhaps it’s just the tiredness talking, but I replied as follows. Hopefully you can see past my ridiculous subject matter, and actually make use of it. If not, then at least enjoy the silliness!

My reply – a simple e-newsletter template

“Thanks for your email. I don’t really have a template that you could follow, but I can quickly lay it out for you. Assuming it’s an emailed newsletter, your email should have a short intro/summary of the issue, followed by a bulleted list containing a teaser / snippet of each article, and a Read More… link. Like this:

This week has been another huge one at ACME Drink Bottles. In addition to having a head office demolished by a Brontosaurus, we engaged two new staff members, and released a new white paper on how best to drink from a drink bottle. You’ll find a link to that white paper below. Also below are a collection of helpful articles on drink bottles, drinking and dinosaurs. Hope you find them interesting.
